Abstract
The function of the human body depends upon the transport of substances across cell membranes. Transport across cell layers is the basis of respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, and capillary functions. Many hormones control membrane transport of various substances, and neural activity is dependent upon control of ion movements across membranes.
