Abstract

A few years ago, I speculated on the pressing need for integrating neuroimaging with neuropsychological assessment (Bigler, 1991). That speculation is now reality, partly because of the rapidly improving methods for automated image analysis (see Andreasen, Cizadlo, Harris, Swayze, O’Leary, Cohen, Earhardt, & Yuh, 1993; Robb, 1990; Figure 3.1). Much of this work is based on the obvious premise that if we had a reliable method for quantitatively presenting neuroimaging data, this information should be most helpful in neuropsychologically assessing the patient.
