Abstract

Nearly all of the important work on radio emission from non-solar stars and stellar systems has occurred since 1970. During this period the wide variety of stellar radio emission phenomena has been made clear, and in some cases there are striking similarities to solar radio emission. Therefore, a review of earlier stellar work, and solar radio phenomena, provides useful perspective. In this chapter, we will consider only continuum radio emission, leaving circumstellar spectral line emission to other chapters.
