Abstract

Hexachloro 1,3-butadiene (HCBD; other synonyms: hexachlorobutadiene;1,1,2,3,4,4-hexachloro-1,3-butadiene; perchlorobutadiene; trade names: C46; Dolen-Pur; CAS No.: 87-68-3) is a colorless liquid with a faint turpentine-like odor. It is practically insoluble in water (5 μg/mL at 20°C) but is soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether. It has a melting point of about -21°C and a specific gravity of 1.675. It is not volatile (22 mm Hg at 100°C) and is a nonflammable, stable compound (Hawley 1977).
