Abstract

This chapter is devoted to the boundary value problem of place in finite elastostatics. This problem corresponds to the assignment of the trace on ∂Ω of the unknown equilibrium deformation φ. Here we confine our attention to the case in which the trace of φ on ∂Ω is required to be the identity l∂Ω. The case when the trace of φ on ∂Ω is assigned to be the trace on ∂Ω of a given deformation can obviously be reduced to the one studied here. We consider the case when the body forces are independent of the deformation (dead load), and the case when the body forces depend on the unknown deformation (live load).
