Abstract
This paper reviews a few examples of information available from psychology that are pertinent to CAD tools used by expert, creative designers. Well-documented evidence on expertise is used to formulate a set of recommendations that will promote conceptual design when used in a CAD system. The advantages of borrowing information from established disciplines such as psychology to facilitate theory in new domains such as design are discussed.
