Surgical Treatment of Gastric Carcinoma: Approach According to Tumor Stage or Total Gastrectomy as the Operation of Choice

  • Conference paper
Gastric Carcinoma

Abstract

Although the incidence of gastric carcinoma is declining, epidemiologic investigations show that this tumor continues to be one of the leading causes of death from cancer.1–5 Even with increasingly differentiated diagnostic procedures and improved standardization of histopathologic classifications, the requirements for early diagnosis and sufficient radicality as basic preconditions for therapy remain as pressing as ever, since the extent of surgery continues to be a major topic of discussion, regardless of changed points of view.
