Use of Ivermectin in Cattle, Sheep, Goats, and Swine

Abstract

This chapter presents a summary of the efficacy data that form the basis for the clinical use of ivermectin in cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. At least 2 adequate and well-controlled trials investigated each ivermectin formulation’s effect on each parasite species. Most of the trials were conducted by MSDRL investigators, though investigators at other laboratories also contributed. The efficacy percentages presented here are those upon which the regulatory approvals were based. Animal health applications of ivermectin have been reviewed (Campbell et al. 1983; Campbell and Benz 1984; Benz 1985; Campbell 1985; Bennett 1986; Barragry 1987). Clinical usages have also been summarized concerning cattle (Leaning, Roncalli, and Brokken 1983), sheep (Hotson 1983), and swine (Brokken et al. 1983). Recent reports that expand the basis of the label claims are included.
