Abstract
This chapter deals with the theory of testing hypotheses. Many statisticians have contributed to the development of this theory, R.A. Fisher, J. Neyman, E.S. Pearson, and others. The practical importance of the theory is sometimes questioned, and, as we shall see, care needs to be exercised in using the theory.
