Abstract
The linkage disequilibrium existing between HLA-DR and DQ antigens is so strong that associations that do not follow the pattern appear as exceptions. In Caucasoids, the associations are well known: DQw1 is linked with DR1, DR2, DRw6, DRw10, DQw2 with DR3 and DR7, DQw3 with DR4, DR5, DR9, DQw4 (or WA) with DRw8. Different combinations are found when other ethnies are investigated, for example, in South African Negroes, DR3 is sometimes associated with DQw3 or DQ blank (1).
