Abstract

As there is a large and rapidly developing literature concerning the standing stock, vertical distribution, sediment trap data, and shell dissolution of planktonic foraminifera, we will not attempt a comprehensive review of all of the literature, but provide an overview from our perspective that may be useful in guiding the reader to the major works in the field.
