Abstract
Most of the hard evidence and current views pertaining to the causes of the high vertebrate species diversity in tropical coral reefs and rainforests have been reviewed in the preceding pages, and their implications at the Community level discussed. However, the understanding of the ways in which species-rich communities are structured and maintain themselves does not forcibly teil us why such assemblages are the rule in the humid tropics but not elsewhere; some further considerations on this subject might therefore be timely.
