Abstract
Satellite RNAs of plant viruses are sometimes considered to be molecular parasites of the helper virus-host plant system. They are not required for virus infection and have little or no homology with either their helper virus or the host plant, but they are recognized by the virus such that they replicate to high levels and become encapsidated in virus coat protein.
