Abstract
Glassware washing is perhaps the most critical research support procedure performed in laboratories involved in biomedical research, especially in those laboratories involved in tissue culture. Errors in processing glassware that allow contamination to remain on supposedly clean glassware can have devastating results for research operations. All laboratories need to have a standardized glassware washing procedure in order to save processing time, minimize chance of error, identify sources of contamination when problems occur, and ensure that similar glassware items are handled in the same manner, thus minimizing the need for custom treatment of common-use glassware. Special treatments should be kept to a minimum to avoid introduction of variables, thereby defeating the purpose of a standardized procedure.
