Abstract

In the past 2 decades mental health care has seen a gradual move from hospital to community care. More patients are now being treated, whenever possible, in ambulatory facilities rather than in remote bedcare institutions. However, this shift is proceeding at different speeds in various countries. In some of them the process appears to be slow, involving mainly nonpsychotic patients.
