Abstract
Flour beetles of the genus Tribolium can be routinely maintained in the laboratory for long periods of time. Monthly census records on populations continuously cultured for up to six years are available (Park and Frank 1950). In single species cultures extinction is rare. But in cultures with two species present one or the other nearly always goes extinct. The rule is reversed: extinction is common.
