Representative Physical Properties for the Condensate Film and the Vapor Boundary Layer

  • Chapter
Theory of Laminar Film Condensation

Abstract

Physical properties vary with temperature and concentration. In the previous theoretical analyses, constant property values have been given under the assumption that representative values will be adequate. These will be determined in this chapter. The variation of physical properties in the condensate film is smaller than that in the vapor boundary layer. Therefore, representative values for the condensate film are first determined by calculation for saturated pure vapors. Those for the vapor boundary layer of binary vapor mixtures are then determined by calculation, considering the distribution of both temperature and concentration, while using the obtained representative values for the condensate film.
