Abstract

For an autonomous agent to operate in an unknown environment, it must be able to perceive quickly and accurately the locations of the objects in that environment. This task must be accomplished quickly because the agent must be able to respond to events in its environment in a timely fashion. Accuracy is, of course, important because an agent may not be able to reason correctly about its environment with inaccurate data.
