Abstract
Infective endocarditis may result from organisms other than bacteria, for example, fungi and parasites. Hence, the term infective endocarditis is preferable to the more commonly heard term bacterial endocarditis or the colloquial “s.b.e.,” meaning subacute bacterial endocarditis.
