Abstract

The packing of atoms to form a structure can be accomplished in a number of ways.With respect to the 14 Bravais lattices, the packing (and the stacking of layers) is relatively simple. There are “privileged” positions in cubic and hcp stacking, designated as A, B, or C sites, planes, or stacking. The geometrical definitions of A, B, and C are given in Figure 4.1.
