Abstract
In Chapter 1, several cases of members subjected to axial loads were introduced and discussed. Methods were developed for determining internal forces in axially loaded members for cases in which the applied axial load was either a constant, or varied in some fashion along the length of the member. The concept of the axial force diagram was also developed to show the way the internal axial force in a member varies along the length of the member.
