Gibberellin Mutants in Pisum and Lathyrus

Abstract

Over the last few years, our group has characterized internode length mutants in the garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) and the related species Lathyrus odoratus L. (sweet pea) in order to examine the partial processes controlling stem elongation. In the garden pea, we have identified fifteen loci which exert a marked effect on the synthesis of gibberellin A1 (GA1) or the response to applied GA1.1 We possess three alleles at six of these loci. In sweet peas, two loci have been identified. We will give a brief overview of our findings before concentrating on new work relating to GA biosynthesis in Lathyrus odoratus and the nature of the end-of-day far-red (FR) response in Pisum.
