Abstract

This chapter is dedicated to a brief conceptual overview of a group of strip line geometries having distributed parameter magnetic circuits which are basically similar to mini electrical machines and consequently have similar differential equations. These kinds of devices, however, relate to signal processing and conceivably have the capability for low-noise LC, cost effective filters, electro-magnetic delay lines, and microwave guides. A technical point of interest regarding this type of micro strip filters in contrast to RC micro strip filters [References 9.1 and 9.2] is due to the possibility to obtain high magnetic energy volumetric density by having a high-μ film or ferrite substrate employed along with high- semiconductor and low-ρ film deposition. Compared with the lumped LC micro filters, LC magnetic strip transmission lines made by lithography provide a greater capability in filtering characteristics due to the properties of hyperbolic and Bessel functions and their combinations which can be obtained by the nature of the geometry of uniform and non-uniform micro strip MTLs. This discussion has a hypothetical character and is oriented to generalize the technical applicability of MTL circuit geometry which can be described by combination of magnetic and electric transmission line analytical models analogous to mini electrical machine systems.
