Abstract

This volume is the product of a conference on Cognition and Survey Research, which was held at the Nags Head Conference Center in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, on September 28-October 1, 1989. The conference and the preparation of this volume were jointly supported by ZUMA (Zentrum für Umfragen, Methoden und Analysen), Mannheim, Germany, and by the Survey Research Laboratory and Department of Business Administration, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The book is aimed at the same audiences as the earlier book in this series, Social Information Processing and Survey Methodology (Hippler, Schwarz, & Sudman, 1987), which was based on a 1984 conference held at ZUMA. We believe that both cognitive psychologists and survey researchers have benefited greatly from the dialog and research that have grown rapidly in the past decade between the two disciplines.
