Genetic Experiments and Mapping

Part of the book series: Springer Lab Manuals ((SLM))

Abstract

When a variation is found in experimental materials, genetic analysis requires simple determination of its heritability and of its conformance to one of the several alternative patterns of inheritance (e.g., dominance-recessiveness vs. codominance-additivity; unit factorial vs. multifactorial; biparental vs. uniparental vs. cytoplasmic). A unit-factor variation normally should follow the conventional rules of 3:1 or 1:2:1 in self-fertilization and 1:1 in test crosses, ratios that are evaluated by commonplace statistical tests.
