Overlayer Formation on High-Temperature Superconductors

  • Chapter
Interfaces in High-Tc Superconducting Systems

Abstract

Studies of the surface properties and interface properties of the high-temperature superconductors (HTS) have gone hand in hand with other developments in HTS science and technology. The relevance of such surface/interface properties is clear: If these superconductors are to be integrated with other materials, then materials compatibility issues must be thoroughly explored and, ultimately, optimized. In the last few years, the techniques of surface science have been used to advantage to explore such materials compatabilities, and a great deal has been learned [1, 2].
