Abstract

Approximately 60 – 70% of the filtered sodium and potassium ions are removed isotonically from the proximal tubule. After passing the length of the proximal tubule, the volume of the filtrate has therefore been reduced by 30 – 40%, without altering sodium and potassium ion concentrations. Actively transported species include: Example
  • sodium

  • potassium

  • bicarbonate
