Pulmonary Valve Stenosis

  • Chapter
Manual of Cardiac Surgery

Abstract

This chapter deals with obstruction at the level of the pulmonary valve with an intact ventricular septum. The obstruction may be caused by valvular stenosis or atresia and is often accompanied by a variable degree of infundibular muscular stenosis. Pulmonary stenosis or atresia presenting in the neonatal period can be a difficult problem. Moderate to severe pulmonary stenosis presenting in the child or adult can usually be managed by a percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty. If surgery for pulmonary valvar stenosis is required in the child or adult, it can be performed at very low risk.
