Abstract
It is a privilege and a delight to address the participants of the Second International Symposium on Hormonal Carcinogenesis in this beautiful setting. I am a Program Director in the Chemical and Physical Carcinogenesis Branch, which is part of the Division of Cancer Etiology, National Cancer Institute of the United States National Institutes of Health, the NIH. As most of you are aware, the NIH supports intramural, multidisciplinary research programs; but its much more extensive commitment in terms of funding is its extramural support of research at universities and other institutions all over the world through peer-reviewed grants. It also provides support to a number of national and international meetings deemed of superior caliber as well as contemporary significance. The current conference was peer-reviewed and earned the support of four institutes in addition to that provided by the Karolinska Institute and private sources.
