Abstract
The application of endoscopic techniques to total facial rejuvenation was a logical extension of the endofore-head-lift. The historic events that led to the development of the forehead-lift have been described in a prior chapter by Rollin K. Daniel. My personal experience with the use of the endoscope for facial rejuvenation followed a contemporaneous course with those of Vas-conez and Isse, although the development was slightly different. In January 1992, 1 had the opportunity to use the endoscope during a biplanar forehead-lift with preservation of the neurovascular innervation of the scalp. This experience was presented at the First International Workshop on Facial Rejuvenation in April 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland. At the same workshop during a live surgery demonstration at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Robert Oneal and I used the endoscope in two subperiosteal brow- and face-lift cases.1 Because of the technical difficulties and a lack of specific instrumentation at that point, my initial enthusiasm for the endoscopic techniques in face-lifts was somewhat diminished. However, my enthusiasm was again revived after seeing two videotape presentations at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ASPRS in Washington, DC, in September 1992.
