Bilateral Microtia and Atresia

  • Jack Davis

Unilateral microtia and atresia have been statistically demonstrated to have been satisfactorily repaired using autogenous auricular cartilage. The key question is: How about bilateral cases? This is quite a different sphere, but the basic principles remain:
  1. 1.

Auricular cartilage is not duplicated elsewhere in the body

  2. 2.

The ideal material for microtia repair is autogenous ear material, which paves the way for myringoplasty.

  3. 3.

Microtia and atresia are one entity, to be reconstructed together.
