Abstract

The existence of a unique state of turbulent behaviour for sufficiently large but finite Reynolds number (Re) is questioned. Possible experimental manifestations of the nonexistence of fully-developed turbulence are discussed. The present experimental situation is controversial, and systematic studies over a wide range of operating conditions are required to resolve these fundamental issues.
