Abstract
This chapter begins with a discussion of numeric calculations in Maple, which differ slightly from most other mathematical applications. Basic symbolic computations and assignment statements follow. The final two sections teach the basic types of objects in Maple, and provide an introduction to the manipulation of objects and the commands most useful for this purpose.
