Abstract
In science and engineering, quantitative modeling is always to be preferred. However, quantitative particle simulation requires a degree of experience which is more readily developed if one has already acquired some appropriate physical intuition. Indeed, good intuition is a major asset in any mathematical endeavor. Our objective, then, at present is the development of such intuition through the development of several qualitative models. Quantitative modeling will be pursued in Part III.
