Abstract

The problem treated in the introduction can be transposed to the case of a general distribution of external charges \({{\rho }_{e}}\left( {\vec{r}} \right)\). If this distribution is sufficiently weak and the medium has translational invariance, the most suitable tool for tackling this problem is the use of Fourier-transform analysis, which leads to introducing a dielectric function \(\varepsilon \left( {\vec{q}} \right)\).
