Abstract

In this chapter, we shall define stability and investigate some of its elementary properties. After giving simple examples of stable bundles over curves and ℙ2, we describe unstable and strictly semistable bundles carefully and look at what happens when we change polarizations. The final section, which is not necessary for the rest of this book, describes the differential geometry of stable bundles.
