Abstract
It is not a particularly heartening world we live in. We have been unable to find a reassuring solution even to such a simple problem as the prisoner’s dilemma. The rephrasing of the problem at the end of the previous chapter may be witty, and even sometimes successful, but it does not take the sting out of the prisoner’s dilemma. The possibility of treason and competition is ever present and must be reckoned with at every step.
