Embryology and Imaging of Ambiguous Genitalia

Abstract

Genetic sex is determined at fertilization, defined by the resultant chromosome pattern of the embryo. Pheno-typic sex is determined by the development of the internal and external genitalia. Functional sex is the assigned sex of rearing and is determined primarily by the external genitalia.1–6
