Abstract
In May 1991 I was asked to participate in a Symposium, to be held at the American Chemical Society national meeting in August 1991. Although I could not be present at that time, it was agreed that I would contribute a paper to the proceedings of the Symposium, to be published by the ACS. Grace Borowitz, who organized and chaired the Symposium, wrote me on 1 July 1991 to this effect:
Thank you for agreeing to submit an article to the Proceedings resulting from the Symposium, “Whistle-blowers, Advocates, and the Law” sponsored by the Division of Professional Relations of the American Chemical Society. This letter also confirms our formal invitation to you to publish in the above-mentioned symposium monograph. We hope you can formally accept. The paper itself is due as soon as possible after the symposium date of August 27. The cooperation of all of you in this program and Proceedings makes it a very exciting and relevant event, which we hope will shed some light on the problem of scientific misconduct and its consequences.
