Abstract

Since its introduction 10 or more years ago, MRI has evolved from a promising new modality to an indispensable diagnostic tool. Advances in radio frequency electronics, gradient hardware, computers, and pulse sequence techniques have made it possible to obtain images in shorter and shorter times, allowing improved image quality. Progress in clinical MRI applications has spurred the development of subspecialties within MRI. This chapter presents an overview of the techniques used in routine clinical MRI of various organs, along with selected examples.
