Abstract
We investigate in this chapter the governing equations for gas mixtures which are locally at chemical equilibrium. Chemical equilibrium flows are a limiting model which is of interest for various applications, such as chemical vapor deposition reactors [Gok88], flows around space vehicles [And89] [MVZ97], or diverging nozzle rocket flows [Wil85]. These simplified models provide reasonable predictions when the characteristic chemical times are small in comparison with the flow time, and the associated computational costs are significantly reduced in comparison with chemical nonequilibrium models.
