Abstract
As an alternative to high-gain stabilization to stabilize a system under incomplete information, one may also use, adaptive control, considering the fact that the gain is varying in time according to an adaptation algorithm that takes into account the measured values of the output.

Notes and References
Most of the results in this chapter belong to the authors. Some of them may be found in [16]. An important inspiring source for the authors was the monograph [18].
For a single-input, single-output system (SISO system) of relative degree one, for which the sign of the high frequency gain is unknown, a simple adaptive stabilization algorithm can be found in [61].
The results in Section 5.4 were published in [11]. That a SISO system stabilizable by high-gain output feedback is also adaptively stabilizable was proven in [30].
A general survey concerning adaptive stabilization is [29], where an extended list of references is given.
The algorithm of identification, given in Section 5.5, is inspired by [67].
