Abstract

The counterintuitive role of external noise in dynamical systems has been known and studied for more than two decades. The aim of this book has been to present a detailed, but by no means complete, review of recent progress in the understanding of noise effects in extended systems under local spatial coupling. In this concluding chapter, a few comments will be made on what has been accomplished so far in the field, as well as on future developments that can be expected and/or are desirable.
