Latex-Reserved Single-Character Commands

Latex reserves ten punctuation characters as Latex instructions. To say that Latex reserves certain punctuation marks means that Latex automatically reads these punctuation marks as markup symbols. This section discusses how these punctuation marks function in Latex. Section 8.2 shows you what you must do if you want to use them as ordinary punctuation.
