Abstract
The definition of time to failure in sensory testing is purely subjective. The mean time to failure based on simple averages is biased by the inclusion of unfailed data. One way to overcome this is by defining failure time as the time required for a sample to reach a median or an average panel score of 3.5 on a 7-point rating scale.
