Abstract
In some ways scientists are not at all like actors. Their personalities can often be quite introverted and their level of social skills somewhat below the national average. In other respects there are more similarities, the term prima donna being not uncommonly applied to the more awkward research stars in an institution. Perhaps the closest point of contact is in the craving for publicity. Not publicity in the national media, which are often shunned and regarded as irresponsible, but publicity in the specialised media of science.
