Abstract
Laparoscopic methods for the treatment of colonic pathology have been the subject of intense interest, surgical innovation, and controversy since the first reports of these techniques surfaced in 1991.1–5 The well-known benefits of laparoscopic treatment of biliary tract problems, including greater patient comfort, less surgical insult to the body wall, shorter hospitalization, and a more rapid return to normal activity, are among the reasons for the pursuit of similar methods in colonic surgery.6
