Abstract
Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) is the end product of methionine and cysteine metabolism. It is found everywhere in the animal kingdom. In retina of vertebrates, including humans, it is the most abundant free amino acid, and it ranges from 10 to 52µmol/g tissue (1).
