Abstract

Chapter Objectives—

After you finish this chapter you should be able to:

    Describe the greenhouse effect and the processes by which the earth balances energy flows, and how these flows affect global surface temperature.

  2. 2.

    Explain the important parameters within an earth energy balance model that lead to increased surface temperatures.

  3. 3.

    Explore and build a dynamic model that depicts the relationships among the many variables associated with earth’s energy balance system.

  4. 4.

    Using a systems model, evaluate how greenhouse gas emission control strategies may affect the variables associated with earth’s energy balance and ultimately its surface temperature.
