Abstract

As was discussed in the previous chapter, MCGs convert chemical energy from high explosives into electromagnetic energy. A highly conductive body, accelerated as the result of an explosion, moves through a magnetic field, which, in turn, does work against magnetic forces and induces an electromotive force in a second conductor that surrounds the magnetic field. If the deformation of the magnetic field is sufficiently fast, the magnetic flux will not penetrate through the walls of the moving conductor and the energy in the magnetic field increases. This energy is accumulated in an inductive coil and delivered to a load.
